Who is the course aimed at?
The radiation employer has a range of obligations under the relevant legislation. This course is aimed at those responsible for implementing the legislation associated with the occupational use of ionising radiation: employers; senior managers; and senior SHE personnel.
What is the course about?
This course gives a broad introduction to ionising radiation safety and in particular the relevant regulatory requirements. The course is suitable for all applications of ionising radiation, including sealed and unsealed radioactive material and x-ray generators and does not assume any previous knowledge or training in radiation safety.
What are the benefits of this course?
On completion of the course, those attending will:
- Be aware of the various types of ionising radiation and the need to restrict exposure;
- Be aware of how ionising radiation is used in the workplace, and recognise actual or potential sources of exposure;
- Have a broad understanding of the key requirements and the application of:
- the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999
- the Radioactive Substances Act 1993
- the Environmental Permitting Regulations (England and Wales) 2010
- the current legislation governing the transport of radioactive materials
- the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000
- the Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations 2001;
- Have had an opportunity to discuss their situation and any issues they face with presenters and fellow delegates.
Course overview
This is a one-day course, taught in an interactive classroom environment. The course covers all the necessary legal and practical requirements and the material is put into context through real-life examples. Speakers are selected from our pool of experienced specialists and advisers and they will be on hand throughout the day to discuss specific issues.
