Who is the course aimed at?

The radiation employer has a range of obligations under the relevant legislation. This course is aimed at those responsible for implementing the legislation associated with the occupational use of both ionising and non-ionising radiation, within the healthcare sector; this includes employers, senior managers and senior SHE personnel.

No previous knowledge of radiation safety is necessary.

 

What is the course about?

This course gives a broad introduction to ionising and non-ionising radiation safety and in particular the relevant regulatory requirements, standards and guidance. The course covers all applications of ionising and non-ionising radiation in the healthcare sector.

 

What are the benefits of this course?

On completion of the course, those attending will:

  • Be aware of the various types of ionising and non-ionising radiation and the need to restrict exposure;
  • Be aware of how ionising and non-ionising radiation is used in the healthcare sector, and recognise actual or potential sources;
  • Have a broad understanding of the key requirements and the application of:
    • The Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999
    • The Radioactive Substances Act 1993
    • The High Activity Sealed Radioactive Sources and Orphan Sources Regulations 2005
    • Current legislation for the transport of radioactive material
    • The Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000
    • The Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations 2001
    • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 2010
    • The Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010
    • European Directive 2004/40/EC on Electromagnetic Fields
    • National Miniumum Standards and Associated Guidance;
  • Have had an opportunity to discuss their particular situation and any issues they face with presenters and fellow delegates.
