Introduction

As the UK's primary authority on radiation protection, the HPA's Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards (CRCE) represents a significant resource for employers and others.

A specific function of CRCE is to carry out research to advance knowledge about protection from the risks of radiation; provide laboratory and technical services; run training courses; provide expert information; and fulfil a significant advisory role to regulators, government, the public and others.

In 2003 the Health and Safety Executive recognised HPA as the UK's first 'Radiation Protection Adviser Body' and this was reaffirmed in 2008. The Agency's expertise is also acknowledged worldwide with contributions to international bodies such as ICRP and IAEA.

Our Radiation Protection Advisers

The RPA service is provided by the highly knowledgable staff of the HPA. Between them, our RPAs have many hundreds of years of experience of providing radiation protection advice. All staff are suitably trained and benefit from continuous professional development. HPA makes a significant investment in its people and prides itself that this is repaid in the quality of the service it delivers.
